9/4 Bye bye Kwame
After months of scandal and crime, and years of less-than-savory activity that's finally come to the fore, Kwame Kilpatrick is no longer the mayor of Detroit. He's also being fined a lot of money, and going to jail for four months.
Detroit's situation is the product of a decades-long legacy of corruption and two-way racial intolerance. This Salon article actually puts things pretty concisely if you want to briefly read about the scenario.
Bearing all that in mind, it'd be silly to think that getting rid of Kwame is going to fix Detroit - in fact, the wounds of the city and the racial tension of Michigan will probably get worse again before they get better. But look at the situation there. Status quo isn't doing anything positive, so any instigation of change should be helpful.
