8/25 Usability isn't just for software
It's for anything you... you know... use. The AIGA has released a hypothetical ballot design based on the US Election Assistance Commission's guidelines put forth for this year's ballots, and it's pretty neat. Ballots have the disadvantage of being official government documents (require lots of crappy verbiage that no one understands), designed by committee (no focus or plan), and who knows what else going against them, so who knows if we'll actually see something like this. Probably not. But seeing as how there's no little oval next to "Bush" this year, we should be ok...

What about tax returns? Here in Canada some folks have suggested making the tax forms simpler, so that they fit on the back of a post card. That would save billions of dollars in civil service salaries, accounting fees and headache medicine!

I agree 100% on that. I hear people talking about how either a flat tax or abolishing tax altogether will save so much money in audits and mistakes, but rather than throwing the baby out with the bathwater, can't we start by making tax forms a little easier to work with?
I doubt the US's IRS could manage the back of a postcard thing, but it doesn't hurt to aspire!
